Design for Life

Design for Life is a charity raffle in aid of cystic fibrosis research at Beaumont Hospital. The raffle has been organised in memory of Shaun Walsh and began with his sister, furniture designer Jenny Walsh offering a cabinet as a prize. As word spread in design circles of her plans, many of her colleagues donated pieces of their own work in support of the initiative, and as a result, the retail value of the items in the raffle is in excess of €7,000 and growing.

There are now more than 25 prizes from Irish designers to be won. I have also donated my Tilly Necklace and Red Perspex Bangle to the rising collection. All of the work will be exhibited in the Irish Design Shop, RHA Gallery, Ely Place, Dublin from the 1st – 7th June with the prize draw taking place on June 7th. Tickets are €5 each or three for €10. They are available in several Dublin stores including Irish Design Shop, Project 51, Designist and The Malthouse Design Centre or online.

A gold and emerald ring made for my cousin Rachel’s very dainty little finger.

A custom perspex bangle commissioned by a client for her friend’s birthday. Niamh picked out the colours and shapes and I put it together for her to make this towering bangle.

Irish Tatler

Back in November my Nana asked my to make something for my niece Tilly’s christening and this is what we came up with. It’s a silver and perspex mobile that hangs above her cot. I finally got around to taking a few photos today, and got the little lady to pose for a few as well!

Scléip Trophy

Here is the first of 13 trophies that I am making for Scléip, the national talent competition catering specifically for Irish-medium and Gaeltacht post-primary schools. The trophies are made from the figure of a performer hand made in brass mounted on three layers of laser cut perspex in the silhouette of an audience. The final of the competition takes place on the 24th of March in the Axis Theatre, good luck to all involved!

Perspex Necklaces

My range of perspex necklaces is finally complete! I finished off the Clare and Maureen necklaces this week. The necklaces are named after four generations of women in my family; my grandmother Rose, my mother Maureen, my sister Clare and my niece Tilly. Each necklace is priced at €150 and is available from my shop.

We had a great time at the fashion show for International Women’s Day last week. The beautiful models from Runway Models Academy showed off our jewellery with confidence and style. Thursday March 8th is International Women’s Day and to celebrate the day there will be a fashion showcase called “Fashion Connecxion” held in Dublin City Hall. Four other jewellers and I are taking part in the fashion show, showing some of our statement pieces of jewellery. The jewellers featured are Sara Hunter Jewellery, JeeJewellery By Ger Breslin, Sinead Cooke Jewellery, Jlb Jewellery and yours truly. February News

So far 2012 has been really busy; I kicked it off with Showcase, launched some new jewellery and have made some exciting commissions. I’ve just sent a selection of jewellery from the circle and square collections to Ardmore Pottery & Gallery in beautiful Co. Waterford. Click read more to see what else I’ve been up to…..I’ve been experimenting with my off-cut pieces of perspex from the Tilly and Rose necklaces and made some earrings. Coming to the shop soon!

Here are the wedding rings I made for friends of mine James and Marie who got married last weekend. They decided not to look at the finished rings until they were exchanging vows at the altar. Thankfully they loved them!

This is a top secret platinum and diamond ring, can’t say much about it…. yet!
